Record Part-Tracks Only (No Solos)

For the purpose of miming a video recording of pre-recorded audio and submitting a video file, only.

  • Use of headphones is optional. Any ambient audio from the video file will not be part of the final mix.

  • Follow “Additional Guidelines“, below

  • For solos: record using guidelines below for New or Open solos

Record Part-Tracks and Include a NEW Solo

For the purpose of miming a video recording of pre-recorded audio and to also include a new, accompanied solo (also see Open solos, below)

  • Use of headphones is required to follow reference tracks. Capture new audio and video on separate devices (ie. a laptop for audio and smartphone for video). You’ll then upload an audio file and a corresponding video file.

  • Audio format can be WAV or MP3

  • Follow “Additional Guidelines“, below

Record Part-Tracks and Include an OPEN Solo (ie. for “Profile“)

For the purpose of miming a video recording of pre-recorded audio track and to also include a new, unaccompanied Open solo

  • Record your notated part all the way to the end, then allow a short gap and record your open solo afterward. During the editing process, your open solo will be moved into its rightful place.

  • Use of headphones is optional. Capture new audio and video on separate devices (ie. a laptop for audio and smartphone for video). You’ll then upload an audio file and a corresponding video file.

  • Audio format can be WAV or MP3

  • Follow “Additional Guidelines“, below

Additional Guidelines

  • Dress code: classy black or white (no grey, no stripes) -- or Mingus shirts

  • Record the specified reference hits at the start of ALL recordings (used to align audio to video)

  • Record video using any device including smartphones, in Landscape mode, or horizontal (not Portrait/Vertical)

  • Do not record video in 4K HD (file size too big). Set video to 1080p or 720p in .mp4 or .mov file formats

  • Make sure light sources are facing you and are behind the video device. Illumination should never face into the camera

  • Use a blank-wall background or as simple a background as possible

  • Optionally use a green-screen background which can be used to create a virtual background. This is not required

  • Receiving generic, non-descriptive files names are unusable and will cause delays. Please rename recording files to describe their contents and use the “Upload“ button above to submit. Example: worksong_cherwig.mp4
